Makhana (also called fox nuts or lotus seeds) is one of India’s original superfoods: roughly 9-10g protein per 100g, high fibre, naturally gluten-free and very low in fat. A 30g bowl is around 100 calories – which is why it has replaced chips in so many Indian homes.
